A Visit to See 'Ho Ho'

The week before Christmas, we realized that we still hadn't taken the boys to see Santa, and our time was running short. For some reason, there are about a million places to see Santa during the early part of December, but when you start getting close to Christmas, it's as if Santa had to go back to the North Pole, and his sightings become scant. Lucky for the boys, T had a day off during the week, and we packed into the car for my hometown to visit Santa at Christmasland. When I was a kid, I can very specifically remember our yearly trips to Christmasland to visit Santa, and I was so glad to be able to share this tradition with our boys this year.

Christmasland, for those of you who are unfamiliar, is an old barn that has been turned into a winter wonderland. It is put on by a local Kiwanis club, and has approximately eight different 'rooms' set up with various Christmas scenes before the final stop of visiting Santa. C, and T if we're honest, absolutely loved it, and had so much fun going back and forth between the various 'rooms' to watch the moving trains, animals, and Christmas scenes. G was pretty curious about things too, and took it all in stride.

When we finally got to the end to see Santa...or Ho Ho as C likes to call him...C was in complete awe, and suddenly became tongue-tied about what he wanted for Christmas. All month, he had been telling me he wanted a Jeep (a.k.a. a $5 die-cast Jeep he spotted at Walmart with doors that open and close), but when he was put on the spot by Ho Ho, the cat caught his tongue, and he completely forgot all about everything he had been meaning to talk about. G meanwhile, was firmly established on Santa's lap during the ordeal, and had no problem babbling about whatever it was he thought he needed for Christmas all while trying his hardest to eat Santa's beard.

We never did get C to sit on Ho Ho's lap, and the only way we could get a picture of the two in the same scene was for ALL of us to get in the picture! I'll be interested to see how next year's visit goes! Ho Ho Ho...Merry Christmas!
