Happy Friday friends! Can you believe it's the weekend already? With Labor Day last weekend, this week seems to have gone by especially fast. We don't have any HUGE plans this weekend, but are looking forward to watching lots of football and enjoying some cooler temps. Who knows, maybe we'll even have a bonfire and bust out the smores!
C loves helping me in the kitchen lately, so I cleared out his favorite cabinet...aka the one with a single door that I don't have a lock for...and stocked it with some empty spice jars, plastic mixing bowls, and utensils so he can create tripping hazards help me while I'm busy in the kitchen getting dinner ready. I found some bright colored silicon utensils for about $2 a piece at Walmart earlier this week (only available in store, similar here), and they have been great for playing without my having to worry about scratching the floors or cabinets.
In other news, in-season NFL games kicked off last night, which of course was a highlight for T who enjoys using his free time to be a total fantasy football geek. He's the commissioner of his league for the third year in a row which makes him super pumped to watch all of the NFL games in our otherwise strictly college and high school football loving house. You can imagine C & I's excitement. Unfortunately, we won't be attending a high school football game tonight as Uncle T was injured in last Friday's game and ended up spending the night in the hospital with a possible tear in his esophagus and some air pockets around his heart that shouldn't be there. He's on the mend, and feeling better, but has been told no-contact until next Thursday, so we'll be listening in on 97.7 The Bolt rather than attending the game at Mason Maach Field. Tomorrow is also a big day in college football as Iowa takes on Iowa State at Jack Trice. I should probably be figuring out what to make for tailgating food, but I've got my fingers crossed that maybe I can convince T to throw something on the smoker instead!
With cooler temps on the way, I've been getting C stocked up for fall weather, and picked up a bunch of basics for his fall wardrobe...this fleece jacket and several colors of these long-sleeved basic tee's were the perfect additions for mixing, matching, and layering. I'm not a fan of busy clothing with lots of words or crazy patterns (unless it's athletic gear, or something with Iowa Hawkeyes), and was happy to find these reasonably priced basics on sale.
I've been on the hunt for a good kids-sized chair, and am currently loving this one without personalization from Pottery Barn Kids. C loves to sit and read books, but also loves to dive right off the edge of big people chairs...whomp whomp. Having a pint-sized chair just his size would be a great solution. This chair is a nice size that would allow some growing room. I like the idea of having a pair so that he's got an extra seat for when little friends come to visit! This one might have to go on the Christmas list this year!
Another great thing about this weekend? The Clay County Fair kicks off on Sunday! We can't wait to go check out all of the animal barns, 4-H projects, tractors, trains, midway, variety buildings, and of course indulge in various fair foods. T has been talking about the tenderloin sandwich he had at the fair last fall for a solid year now, and can't wait to get his hands on another one. C also loved the fair last year, and I imagine will have even more fun this year now that he is a little older and more interested in his surroundings. Can't wait to see what he thinks of the baby animal barn!
Have a great weekend!
